Great jointer, but.....

I looked at all the specs (and prices) of all the comparable jointers and determined that the 6" Jet with the wheel adjustable tables was the correct choice. Ordering was smooth and I was notified by the shipper as to what would be a good day and time for delievery. When it arrived, the driver even moved it from the truck to my driveway.
Assembly was fairly straight forward and I was even able to put it together by myself (the 45 year old geezer that I am, and yes, a second person would have been better). After adjusting the pulley alignment, I did a couple of test pieces and was very pleased with the results. The edges came out square and smooth.
The only two complaints I have are : 1)the lower support stand containing the motor assembly had been dented (either dropped or had another piece of cargo run into it. Fortunately, it's only cosmetic, still, if you pay $500 for something new, you would expect no external flaws 2) The pulley adjustment is annoying to work with. Pulling on the motor, aligning both pulleys, while trying to tighten the screws is exhausting. I would think, this being the 21st century, that Jet would design an easier way to adjust the belt.
Other than the two problems, it's been a pleasure to joint nice straight edges with this jointer.
Best Tool I Have

I've owned it for about 2 years. It's performed well on white pine, red oak and walnut. I've tried all sizes, grain patterns, etc. No problems yet. Once the fence is set up and square, it stays that way. I've broken it down and moved it from the garage to the basement without any problem. Also changed the knives once so far due to a nick. It didn't seem too bad, though I have not tried to do the job on other jointers. The most important thing is that it makes very true square edges as long as you maintain the pressure on the piece in the proper directions. It's also the only power tool I own (except for the drill press) that I don't need hearing protection to use. It just makes a nice hum.
